Stroll down Ocean Drive

September 19, 2016

After years of neglect during the 1970s and early 80s, Ocean Drive came roaring back on the scene when a few brave restaurateurs opened cafes and patiently waited for the buzz to energize an area that had gained a reputation for low rent housing and petty street crime.

The popularity of Ocean Drive was born and continues to thrive with the Miami Art Deco District. To gawk at the highest concentration of these streamlined, strikingly geometric structures in the U.S., take a walk north of 5th Street, and stop by the Art Deco District Welcome Center for self-guided audio tours.

The busiest part of Ocean Drive reaches from 12th through 15th Streets, the “SoFi District” (South of Fifth) are less active after hours and tend to be quieter at night. Today, Ocean Drive is a great place to explore SoBe with the beautiful Atlantic Ocean close.

With many restaurants, boutiques, bars, and beautiful Art Deco buildings to admire, you will never feel bored walking through Ocean Drive. It makes a perfect afternoon or morning stroll, so make sure you get there before it gets too busy!
